For the record... With great improvements in European Law with regard to animal welfare in the cosmetics industry, the RSPCA Good Business Awards stopped including Cosmetics businesses in the Awards after 2009. For the record though, 2009 winners and finalists are still highlighted in Good Things - we think they still deserve recognition. Please bear in mind that the products refer to summer 2010.
Sensitive nature
The eagerly awaited Goat’s Milk Skin Cream from the Good Business Award-winning Gamrie Goat is new this spring.
Chris Ralph, colourful founder of The Gamrie Goat, has spent many months perfecting the recipe – and many years perfecting her small herd of goats from which she collects the rich milk for her new skin cream.
“It’s simply goat’s milk, carefully mixed with high quality oils and butters,” says Chris. “My volunteers who have been testing the cream have been very enthusiastic – finding it both soothing and moisturising.”
The Gamrie Goat’s Milk Skin Cream is a new addition to the popular range of Goat’s milk soaps and shampoo bars which are entirely handmade by this small, animal welfare-friendly business based on the family croft on the Moray coast in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
The range includes unscented soaps, made with a high proportion of goat’s milk and sweet almond oil, Frosty’s porridge soap (with oatmeal) Snowy’s Lavender soap (using lavender essential oil), and Goosey Lucy’s Egg Shampoo bars, named after the croft’s goose. Egg yolk is traditionally used to give hair shine and body - which is why it is used in the shampoo bars. Made using the bright yellow yolks from their own free-ranging hens and goose, it is a particularly popular product for people with sensitive scalps.

Handmade soap?
Chris Ralph says:
“Handmade soap? When I say handmade I really mean just that. Each morning and evening I milk the goats the old-fashioned way – by hand, sitting on a stool in the doorway of the barn…”

How are these products ethical?
Posted by: Mandy 12th Aug 2010
These products are ethical because they are not tested on animals, the milk used in them is produced from my own goats. Unlike in commercial dairy herds the male kids are not destroyed or raised for meat, they are kept as pets.
The offer is genuine, prices of other products have not been raised to pay for the offer.
Hope that explains! Please do contact me if you require any further info.
Cheers, Christine. The Gamrie Goat

Mandy, I assume no living creature has suffered, been exploited, used as a guinea pig for testing etc etc, in the production of these products. That's what I'd expect from ethically produced cosmetics. Sophie, if it's a cheap product you're after, you can bet that ethical values will be cast aside, in the production process!

I am a Gamrie Goat convert and have been for a few years now.
I have extremely sensitive skin and can't use any chemicals on my skin at all. I can't even use things from the Dr. that are specially formulated for eczema, psoriasis etc. I used to have eczema from my finger tips to my elbows, and I also suffered from a type of acne caused by my usual chemical filled soap and creams.
My eczema, and acne have disappeared since using the Gamrie Goat's Milk Soap. It leaves skin clean but moisturised, due to the butter and oil content. Also, Goat's milk is known for it's softening properties as the lactic acid in the milk gently but effectively exfoliates the skin.
My favourite product is the Honey Bee Good Soap bar, but I have tried many of the other products, and they are all excellent. If you still aren't convinced then Christine usually offers free samples of her products, just click the website link further up the page and drop her an email.
Oh, and for those people who are concerned about whether the products are ethical, I hardly think that they would win an RSPCA award if they weren't.
I can't wait to received my next order of Gamrie Goat's Milk Soap!
